Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia PC Performance Review

Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia PC Performance Review

Graphical Settings Comparison – GTX 1060 VS RX 580

Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia is an extremely scalable game, allowing the game to run with an average framerate of around 40FPS at max settings while at maximum the game can approach an average of almost 200FPS on our GTX 1060 GPU.

What is apparent in our tests is that GPU performance scaling is much easier than CPU performance scaling, with Thrones of Britannia offering a minimal number of options that can directly influence CPU performance, aside from unit sizes. Other setting changes mostly decrease draw calls to affect CPU performance, which can have a minimal impact on CPU performance depending on the setting.

While Total War Saga: Thornes of Britannia is designed to be a scalable title, we can see looking at the game’s minimum framerates that the things are far from perfect, with our settings comparison pages detailing how even at lower quality settings the game can quickly become CPU limited. While this isn’t a major concern for the campaign map, where higher framerates do little aside from improving map scrolling, gamers will likely come across several situation in-game where their graphics cards are underutilised.

Update – We have added test results for an RX 580 into the graph below.
