Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War III PC performance review

Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War III PC performance review

Introduction

When it comes to the Warhammer universe, the options for strategy gaming are almost endless, from the tabletop classics all the way to many fantastic and PC experiences like Battlefleet Gothic, Warhammer: Total War and Blood Bowl.

Over the years, the Dawn of War series has been one that has been filled with changes, from the development of the original Dawn of War with more traditional RTS elements/gameplay to Dawn of War 2 which focused on a more “Company of Heroes”-style gameplay, which focused less on base building and more on strategic unit movements and pinning down your enemies with heavy weapons.

With Dawn of War III, Relic entertainment wants to deliver an RTS that offers the best elements of both previous releases, coming with base building and a wide range of both units and tactics, though the game also comes with powerful heroes in the campaign which offer almost MOBA-like playstyles. This is certainly an RTS where the use of hotkeys and unit abilities is a must and not an RTS where one simply amasses a large force and throws it at their enemies.

The game’s single-player campaign will focus on the Eldar, Orks and the human Imperial Space Marines, with each faction fighting to claim the “Spear of Khaine” from the wandering Planet Acheron. We will not go any deeper into the story here, but the campaign is effectively just a lengthy tutorial for the game’s multiplayer component.

The big question on many player’s lips is this. In this game where there is only war, will my PC offer enough performance to allow my to reign supreme in the name of the God-Emporer of Mankind? Let’s have a look at the PC performance of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III and see exactly what kind of PC hardware is required to play it with high framerates.
