Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 PC Performance Review
1440p Performance
Space Marine 2 is a demanding game
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a demanding PC game. From both a CPU and GPU perspective, this game asks a lot from your hardware. As such, we will test this game at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K, both with and without FSR/DLSS upscaling. We will test the game using its “native” modes, DLSS, and FSR.
Native Resolution 1440p Performance
At native 1440p, it is clear that this game places huge demands on PC hardware. Only AMD’s RX 7900 XT and RX 6800 XT, and Nvidia’s RTX 4070 Ti were able to achieve 60+ FPS average framerates in our GPU-heavy test scene. Most PC gamers will be running this game with DLSS or FSR enabled and/or below this game’s Ultra preset. That’s what’s needed to play this game at high framerates.
Testing with DLSS/FSR in Quality Mode
With DLSS or FSR set to Quality mode, this game becomes much easier to run. Note that Nvidia GPUs see the larger boost here, likely because Nvidia’s DLSS uses separate AI compute, rather than traditional GPU compute resources. AMD’s FSR tech uses normal CPU resources, which then cannot be used for the game’s rendering.
