As with any high-speed M.2 drive, temperatures are vital to consistent high performance. We saw such a massive temperature drop when running the fan vs running passively, even with a heatsink this big, that we had to test the transfer speeds in the two scenarios. Until now we’ve just been running with the fan on.

If the fan makes that much of a difference we had to find out how it affected performance. As you can see below the write speeds take a battering when things get warm. It’s still ludicrously fast, but nowhere near as quick if you don’t leave the fan running.
