PC Specialist Hyperion Zen Review

One of the things we always love about PC Specialist systems is that they give you all the things you’d get if you brought the components separately and built it yourself. It might seem like a small thing, but you always expand your system, whether by buying new things down the road or just transferring old drives from your current rig to the new one, so having the cables and screws and brackets to hand is much easier than attempting to source the relevant bits. As always the internals are packed with the genius expanding foam, although there isn’t quite as much packing inside the Hyperion Zen as we’ve seen from other systems they’ve sent us. The Corsair Carbide 740 Air case is one of the increasingly popular ‘square’ cases, so there is bags of room inside it both for the components and also to tuck away your cables. Personally we’re not overly keen on the slatted/louvre heavy design, but we know that’s a matter of taste and some of you will love it. It certainly makes the case easy to move around.

The EK water-cooling looks spectacular whether you’re viewing it from the back or the more usual front view. With a rear space a lot of the things that make our cases look untidy or are a pain to keep hidden are easily handled. Speaking of the rear view, the vertical PSU and EK reservoir combination look like they were designed specifically to fit this case. Barely a millimetre of space. Obviously case sizes are fairly standard, PSU sizes are too, so it shows that the EK designers have covered all the bases when sizing their reservoir. About the only thing we’d prefer, and again this is entirely personal preference, is the pearlescent coolant as the clear stuff is a bit too bland. Although with RGB lighting it is understandable why PC Specialist haven’t gone for a coloured coolant. It just needs a bit of extra zip for our tastes, especially at this price.
