Shadow of the Tomb Raider PC Performance Review

Shadow of the Tomb Raider PC Performance Review

Introduction

Since the release of Tomb Raider (2013), the franchise has been the poster child of PC gaming’s graphical supremacy over consoles, starting with the game’s use of TressFX on the rebooted series’ first entry and ending with planned RTX and DLSS support for the game’s latest entry.

On top of the franchise’s use of new graphical techniques, the series is now known for pushing beyond the graphical capabilities of consoles in almost all areas, replacing the game’s BTAO with HBAO+ at its highest settings while offering higher resolution shadows, increased draw distances and range of additional Antialiasing options.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is an exciting release of PC enthusiasts in a number of ways, from its support for both DirectX 12 and DirectX 11 to its planned use of Ray Tracing and Deep Learning technologies thanks to Eidos-Montreal’s partnership with Nvidia.

On the tech side, there is a lot to talk about when it comes to Shadow of the Tomb Raider, from the game’s visual splendour at its highest settings to the problem with relying on integrated benchmarking utilities. We can also see the future of PC gaming thanks to Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s top class DirectX 12 implementation, and ability to make use of high core count processors.

In this lengthy performance review, we will be looking into several aspects of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and how well it runs on today’s PC hardware.
