APNX Max G1 1200 PSU Review

Meet the APNX Max G1 1200

APNX is a relatively new brand in the PC market, and today it has entered the PSU market. Starting today, new APNX MAX G1 series PSUs will be available from online retailers. These PSUs will be available in 850W, 1000W, and 1200W forms, and today we will be looking at the 1200W model.

I’ll be honest. APNX has impressed us recently. Their new APNX V2 PC case looks awesome (see our review here), and their older V1 case (review here) was also a solid offering. Now it’s time to see if APNX can successfully move into a new market, and if a PSU from APNX is something that’s worth investing in.

Just looking at the box, we can tell several things. First, this is a fully modular power supply. Second, it’s ATX 3.1-compliant and 80 PLUS Gold and Cybenetics Platinum-certified. That means that this is a high-efficiency power supply.

Note that the APNX MAX G1 1200 is 140mm long. This makes it short for a 1200W PSU, making it suitable for more compact PC cases. This gives users more room for cable management, making the PC building process simpler.

Dual 12V-2×6

For the 1200W MAX G1 model, APNX has included two 16-pin (12V-2×6) power outputs. Both of these cables max out at 600 watts. While both cables cannot be maxed out simultaneously on this PSU (as a 1200W PSU is not strong enough to power a system with two 600W CPUs), this is a valuable option for workstation users with multiple lower-power RTX PRO graphics cards. For gamers, this isn’t an overly useful feature; multi-GPU gaming systems aren’t really a thing anymore. SLI is dead after all.

Eco Mode

With its “Eco Mode”, the fan on APNX’s MAX G1 series PSUs can operate in a “Zero Fan” mode. This allows the PSU to operate silently under low-load conditions. If users disable this feature, the fan will operate continuously. Some users will prefer this active cooling approach, though it isn’t required to ensure that this PSU is adequately cooled under low loads.

Cables

APNX’s MAX G1 series PSUs ship with debossed cables with included cable combs. This allows PC builders to have a more aesthetically pleasing PC. While debossed cables do not look as good as individually sleeved cables, they do look great compared to standard black power cables.

Thanks to APNX’s included cable combs, owners of this PSU will be able to enjoy neatly managed cables within their systems. This is a clear upgrade over the standard cables that are included with most PSUs.

Included with the 1200W version of APNX’s MAX G1 PSU are two 12V-2×6 power cables, each rated for 600W. These use debossed cables like APNX’s other cables, making them match their PSU’s other cables. Honestly, it’s surprising how many brands ship their PSUs with 12V-2×6 cables that don’t match the others. If you want consistency with your PSU cables, APNX has you covered.

Included Cables

Below is a list of the included cables with APNX’s MAX G1 series SPUs. Note that only the 1200W model includes two 16-pin (12V-2×6) cables.
