Fractal Design Meshify S2 Review

From our own measurements the S2 measures 538x233x465mm, so it’s basically quite a large case. Until recently we didn’t have any firm figures with regards to weight, so were going to suggest that for now you’re going to have to be reassured by our appraisal which is that it’s somewhere between “reassuringly heavy”, and “F**k me that’s heavy”.  As it happens, we now know that the S2 weighs in at 9.52KG, which We think adheres well to our initial appraisal.  The majority of the case is steel, with the only exceptions being the full-size window, and the plastic front panel and roof vent. 

 

 

As with others in the Meshify series, Fractal has elected to adopt the tessellating triangle appearance to the front panel.  While some might have preferred a flat front panel, we have to say that we’re quite taken with this “stealth” style design. 

  

 

Fractal has always been one for high-quality attention to detail items, so it comes as no surprise that we find a black etched brushed Aluminium case badge down in the bottom left-hand corner of the case front.

  

 

The front I/O is a simple affair but is no less functional for it.  From left to right we have a pair of audio sockets, a very pleasing USB type C input, a start button, and a reset button, and finally a pair of USB 3.0s.

  

 

The top of the case is given over to a massive steel mesh area, more of which later.

  

 

 The rear of the case has 140mm fan fitted, with slotted mounts for both 120mm and 140mm units.

  

 

Up in the top left hand corner of the rear of the case is large button.  Nice though it would be for this to eject the passenger, it does in fact release the roof panel.

  

 

The S2 has seven horizontal rear expansion ports, with a further two mounted vertically, implying that this case is compatible with vertically mounted GPUs  Below all of this we find the PSU mount, which as we can see requires the exterior panel to be removed, the PSU mounted to it.

  

 

The case rests of four substantial chrome finished feet, and has a full-length mesh filter which is only extractable from the front of the case.  It’s worth noting, that if you with to remove the case front, you must first remove the underside mesh filter.
