Up close: Interior

It’s fair to say that the interior of the S2 bears a remarkable resemblance to the most recent Define S.  Now don’t go taking that as a criticism, the Define S is a fine case, and it’s common practice for manufacturers to re-use certain elements of a case chassis or exterior trim, it’s one of the things that helps keep R&D costs down, and as such retail prices down for the likes of us consumers.

What we have then is a large CPU cut out, along with grommeted cut outs along the anterior and superior edges of the motherboard area.  Unlike the Define S the S2 has a full length PSU shroud, which also benefits from a large grommeted cable management hole.  The large vertical slots towards the front of the case are intended to enable mounting of such things as water cooling reservoirs, to aid which, Fractal include a pair of brackets in their accessories kit.

  

 

The S2 comes with a pair of 140mm fans fitted as standard but is slotted to accept up to 3×140 or 3x120mm fans.

  

 

The rear section of the PSU shroud is well ventilated should you choose to mount your PSU with the fan uppermost, and the anterior portion of this shroud is removable allowing extensive water cooling functionality at the front of the case.

  

 

In this image we can see the seven horizontal vented expansion slots as well as the pair of vertically oriented ones.  The latter of which indicates that although the S2 does not come with the necessary hardware included, it is capable of accepting vertically oriented GPUs.

  

 

Peering up towards the roof we again see the generous 140mm fan, and can catch a glimpse of the slotted mounts for both 120mm and 140mm fans.
