ASUS TUF Gaming Z790-Pro WiFi Review
Introduction and Technical Specifications
Introduction
It’s all too easy when you are looking for a new motherboard to get swayed by the high end models. Certainly they have their appeal and charm. However, you have to ask yourself some searching questions about what you really need. Modern chipsets are so consistent that the differences in performance between a base model and a flagship one are minimal. That isn’t to say there aren’t any. Merely that the extra expense isn’t always worth it in performance terms.
The ASUS TUF range has always been a clear demonstration of this. Today we’ve got the newest iteration of the Z790 TUF for review, the TUF Gaming Z790-Pro WiFi.
Boasting support for all the 14th Generation of Intel Core processors and super fast DDR5, it’s a fine platform. It even has 5 PCI Express slots. One 5.0, two 4.0 and two 3.0. Storage is handled by both SATA ports for those of you who are migrating from an existing system, and four M.2 slots for the latest storage options. Only the lack of a PCI Express 5.0 M.2 slot can be considered a drawback, although anyone looking at this end of the market probably hasn’t the wedge for one of those.
As always we’ve got the official specifications here, and we’ll take you on a tour of the board on the next couple of pages. Certainly when you compare it to their flagship ASUS ROG Z790 Maximus Dark Hero, the Z790 TUF isn’t that lacking in connectivity options.
