Up Close – B760-G D4

mATX motherboards are very much all the motherboard you actually need. ITX motherboards usually require some compromises, but most of us don’t use the other PCI Express slots you get with a full ATX motherboard, so the Strix B760-G D4 could find a home in a lot of systems, especially if the performance matches what we’ve seen already from the Raptor Lake CPUs.

Power for the 60A 12+1 teamed Power Stages that control the LGA 1700 socket and sundries is supplied by a 4+8 pin 12V arrangement tucked between the VRM heatsinks.

The top right corner finds two CPU fan headers – including one AIO pump header – with a system fan/CPU Opt on the right below the AURA Sync RGB lighting headers.

In the middle, just like the A, we have a USB 3.2 G1 Type-A and USB 3.2 G2 Type-C front panel headers to save you fannying about at the back of your case. The PCI Express retention latch being a button is the kind of thing that is QoL changing if you swap graphics cards a lot.

Despite, or perhaps because of, the smaller form factor on this mATX Strix, the four SATA ports are all together as they should be on the B760-G. Strange that the Strix B760-F has four separate horizontal ones, the Strix B760-A has two horizontal here and two vertical at the bottom, yet they’re all part of the ASUS Strix B760 range.

Rounding off the PCB we have the two USB 2.0 front panel headers so beloved of every RGB device we currently utilise. Those are followed by a fan header and the front panel audio headers. Speaking of audio the B760-G uses the SupremeFX S1220A rather than the ALC4080 on the B760-A and B760-G.

Although we’ve lost the cat and dog pixel art, the B760-G has the same selection of connections on the rear panel as we saw with the B760-A. Plentiful USB options ranging from USB 2.0 Type-A up to the 20G USB 3.2 G2x2 Type-C. Networking comes in both WiFi 6E and Intel 2.5G LAN formats.
