NZXT N9 X870E Review

Wrap Up

We’ve seen thousands of products through the years here at OC3D. Naturally some live long in the memory whilst others fade. One that shall live long was the ASUS Sabertooth P67 motherboard. It was the first that covered up the PCB. Since then many manufacturers have, to a greater or lesser extent, done likewise.

Recent advances into the land of M.2 drives has meant more of the lower halves of our motherboards get covered. NZXT with the N9 X870E have taken this to new heights. This is a gorgeous motherboard. Aesthetics beyond reproach. We adore the smooth sleek lines of the Gen 5 heatsink you can see in the picture that adorns the top of every page. Bold branding against crisp whites. Looking below is where we can barely contain ourselves. Every other cover of the NVMe/PCI Express section of a motherboard looks half-hearted when compared to the NZXT N9 X870E.

So Purty

If you’ve been following NZXTs motherboard launches then you’ll probably remember that a full cover motherboard is pretty much their trademark. Certainly you can look back and see plenty of examples. We think with this model they’ve perfected the idea. For lots of reasons. Partly that such a big piece of metal can only be beneficial to our M.2 temperatures. Partly because the silver will reflect our lighting nicely. But mainly that the whole lower half is covered. No holes. No gaps. Just beauty.

Elsewhere the N9 has everything you could expect from a modern AMD chipset. Plenty of USB ports and storage slots ensure you’re never short of somewhere in which to store your games and connect the peripherals to play them. If you’re already part of the NZXT ecosystem then this is the perfect motherboard for you. As we said on the previous page, but bears repeating, the N9 has connectors on the motherboard for easy control of the Kraken and similar things with their CAM software.

The only small issue we have to report is that we know this is manufactured by Asrock. You may be aware that their motherboards have a reputation for burning pins. Obviously we’re sure NZXT would have made certain this was no longer an issue, but we would want to get assurances before dropping a 9800X3D in it just in case.

The NZXT N9 X870E is utterly gorgeous and an easy winner of our OC3D Aesthetics Award.
