Dark Souls 3 PC Performance Review

Dark Souls 3 PC Performance Review

1080p Testing with the GTX 960 and  R9 380

With our GTX 960 and our R9 380 we can achieve a stable 60FPS at low settings, but if we move any higher we can see that there are some performance dips, especially on the AMD R9 380.

It is a shame that the game is limited to a maximum framerate of 60, as with higher end parts this game looks like it should easily be able to achieve much higher framerates. As it stands with Dark Souls 3 there is no reason to own a monitor that is above 60Hz, which is a real annoyance to anyone with premium gaming displays.

Dark Souls 3 is a game that is best played with a high and stable framerate, as large framerate judder in a battle could easily lead to death, so I wouldn’t go above the low presets with either the R9 380 or medium presets with the GTX 960.

With the Console versions of Dark Souls 3 running at 30 FPS, or lower at times is reports are to be believed, it is great to see that a steady 60 is achievable with these GPUs, even at low settings.
