Dying Light: The Following PC Performance Review - AMD VS Nvidia

System Requirements and In-Game Settings

One of the strange things about Dying Light’s The Following expansion is that Techland, the developer of the game, has listed minimum and recommended specifications that are lower than that of the base game, suggesting that the expansion is either easier to run than the base game or that the Techland have realized that their old specifications were too high for the game.

Having played the Original title and the Expansion now I can say with confidence that both run very similarly, but that the original recommended requirements are aimed at the game’s Best Quality preset at 1440p and that the recommended requirements for the expansion are aimed towards PC gamers that want to play the game at the same settings at 1080p.

In-Game Settings

Below are the settings that we have tested in the game, with V-Sync off and at resolutions of 1080p, 1440p and 4K. One thing to note is that the game’s Best Quality preset automatically turns V-Sync On, so the only change we have made is turning it off for benchmarking purposes.

The Best Quality preset is not the game’s highest graphical setting, with the game having higher shadow map size and view distance options. We have set the game to its Maximum settings and will test this as well as the games pre-made settings.

Sadly this game only has FXAA as an AA option, but this can be enables or disabled if depending on the users opinion on the effect. Some proper AA options like SMAA would be appreciated.
