Paragon Beta PC Performance Review

1440p Testing with AMD R9 Fury X and Nvidia GTX 980Ti

Moving up to 1440p we continue to see great PC performance in Paragon, but also that a great deal of improvement that needs to be done before release.

First we can see that the minimum framerate performance in the game does not decrease much for AMD (or Nvidia at low settings) when we move from 1080p to 1440p, showing that Paragons performance could improve with better CPU utilization or optimizations. Being performance limited by a 4.7GHz i7 6700K is a very strange thing to see in this game, but it is likely that this issue can likely be addressed with a future patch, especially when you consider the relative performance of the PS4’s CPU.

Paragon looks like a it will be a game that could really justify using DirectX 12, as one of the main benefits of the new API is to help better utilize CPU resources, which would likely improve this games minimum framerates significantly.

It is very rare to see a game that is able to run this well it is released as an early access title, which gives me a lot of confidence that Paragon’s performance will continue to improve when moving into the future. Far too often we find that early access titles are released in an almost unplayable state, where flagship components can barely maintain a solid 60FPS at 1080p, nevermind a solid 60FPS at 1440p.
