Death Stranding PC Performance Review and Optimisation Guide

CPU Performance – Incredible CPU Scaling

CPU-wise, Death Stranding isn’t going to be posing any issues to most modern gaming systems. Even when we set our i7-6900K to use two cores and four threads, the game ran at an average framerate of over 100 FPS. That said, core counts that low will cause frametime issues, as can be seen in the graph below.

To play Death Stranding, we stand by Kojima Production’s minimum system requirements, which list processors with a minimum of four cores. With a quad-core setup, our setup offered us 99th percentile framerates of 91 FPS. If you are looking for a locked 60 FPS, a decent quad-core processor is more than adequate.

For fans of high framerate PC gaming, our data shows that Death Stranding benefits from processors with high core/thread counts. Enabling hyperthreading on our quad-core simulation yielded us much higher 99th percentile frametimes, and upgrading to six and then eight cores yielded their own performance benefits. We get diminishing returns as cores/thread counts increase, but we still see performance benefits.
