Death Stranding PC Performance Review and Optimisation Guide

Settings Scaling and Optimisation Tips

As we mentioned on page 5, Death Stranding lacks the graphics scalability that most PC games offer. The game was optimised for PlayStation 4, and with that came tight optimisation of all of the game’s graphical effects. No single setting offers larger performance boosts outside of resolution scaling options. If you want to use these settings to boost your framerates, you will need to be prepared to tweak a lot of settings to have any real impact.

Thankfully, Death Stranding is easy to run at 1080p 60 FPS, even at the game’s highest settings. This means that settings tweaking will mostly come from users of 1440p or larger screens. To those users, the best ways of boosting Death Stranding’s performance is to run the game at a lower resolution or to activate an upscaling feature like FidelityFX CAS (Contrast Adaptive Sharpening) or DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), though DLSS is limited to Nvidia’s RTX series graphics cards exclusively.

The setting which has the largest impact on Death Stranding’s performance is SSAO. No other setting has a significant performance impact on our RTX 2060 powered system.
