FSR Upscaling in Dune Awakening’s PC Benchmark
Like our DLSS testing, the data below comes from the Dune Awakening benchmark’s “Player Built Bases” scene. Once again, enabling FSR in quality mode delivers a huge increase in the game’s average framerate. When using Frame Generation, framerates increase again.
With FSR in Quality mode, framerates increase by 67.4% over native resolution TAA. With FSR in Quality mode with Frame Generation, framerates increase by 202%.
As usual, DLSS Frame Generation appears heavier than FSR Frame Generation. This allows AMD’s solution to deliver higher final framerates. While deeper analysis may reveal higher quality frames from DLSS Frame Generation, FSR delivers more “real frames” and “fake frames”, giving a smoother overall experience.
1080p Performance

For our GPU comparison testing, we decided to use the Dune Awakening’s “Ultra” settings with DLSS/FSR set to quality mode on AMD and Nvidia GPUs. Sadly, we do not have an Intel GPU available for testing.
Below, we can see that even with FSR/DLSS enabled, some GPUs do not push past 60 FPS at all times. While this makes sense for a GPU as old as Nvidia’s RTX 2060 6GB, it is a shame that AMD’s RX 6600 also falls into this category. Thankfully, moving to high settings will give gamers a decent visual experience and significantly higher framerates. This will push AMD’s RX 6600 past the 60 FPS mark in all areas of Dune Awakening’s benchmark.
For high framerate gameplay, we expect that most PC gamers will need to rely on Frame Generation to enable high levels of smoothness. Yes, GPUs like AMD’s RX 7900 XT excell in the chart below, but I don’t expect many users of this GPU to be using a 1080p screen.
