F1 2018 PC Performance Review

F1 2018 PC Performance Review

Core Scaling – Should F1 players have high core count CPUs?

Let’s be honest, judging from this game’s CP requirements we expected F1 2018 to be a lot more CPU intensive, especially when running at the game’s maximum settings.

It was only when moving to the dual-core/quad-thread setup that we started to see a significant drop in performance, though it is worth noting that we used a 4GHz clock speed on both our AMD Ryzen and Intel Broadwell-E systems. While our benchmark run remained over 60FPS at 4GHz, it must be remembered that most older i3-class CPUs offer clock speeds of below 4GHz, lower performance levels per clock and are not overclockable, making our recommendation for this game a fast quad-core or better.

F1 2018 appears to be well optimised for both Intel and AMD processors, though our AMD Ryzen-based system can offer higher average framerates in our benchmark run. Even so, this performance difference is unnoticeable in practice, giving neither brand a clear advantage.
