Forza Horizon 5 PC Performance Review and Optimisation Guide

1080p Performance Tested – Extreme Preset

If the benchmark results below tell us anything, it’s that Forza Horizon 5’s Extreme preset is taxing, especially on older graphics cards. This is especially true for pre-Turing Nvidia hardware and pre-RDNA AMD hardware. In general, modern AMD graphics cards are bested by their Nvidia Geforce equivalents.

With Nvidia’s RTX 2060 graphics card, VRAM issues were apparent at Extreme settings at 1080p, 1440p and 4K resolutions, resulting in performance issues. Setting Forza Horizon 5’s texture settings to Ultra addressed these issues, resulting in much better performance.

For most of the graphics cards below, stable performance can be achieved by using Forza Horizon 5’s High preset. That said, older graphics cards like AMD’s RX 480 and Nvidia’s GTX 1060 require medium settings to achieve solid framerates above 60 FPS in most situations. The good news is that Forza Horizon 5 is scalable enough to support most modern gaming PCs.

Forza Horizon 5 may be more graphically taxing than its predecessor, but it is also much better looking at its highest graphical settings. Playground Games has worked to utilise the hardware within modern PCs and Xbox Series X, resulting in great visual results.
