8x MSAA – The Bane of Radeon Graphics Cards

Every Radeon graphics card that we tested presented the same issue, which forced them to fall behind their Nvidia counterparts when Journey is played in a “Maxed out” state. This issue is with the game’s MSAA, which at the game’s 8x setting takes a heavier than expected toll on AMD-powered graphics cards. 

Below we will show you some results for AMD’s Radeon RX 580 and RX Vega 56, showcasing the performance gains that can be achieved when MSAA is lowered from 8x to 4x. In the case of the RX 580, we see a performance increase of almost 83%. Nvidia graphics cards are not hit as hard my Journey’s MSAA settings.
