Mass Effect Andromeda PC Performance Review

RX 480 VS GTX 1060 – Low, Medium, High and Ultra Settings

When benchmarking this game on our GTX 1060 and RX 480 GPUs we can see that even at a resolution of 1440p that the game can be played at a steady 30+ FPS at Ultra settings on both GPUs, though it is worth noting that in-engine cutscenes dialogue scenes can suffer from harsher dips in performance.

Moving down to 1080p high and 1440p medium settings will see this game play at average framerates of over 60FPS on both of these GPUs. It is clear from these results that Mass Effect Andromeda prefers to run on GPUs from Nvidia, which is unsurprising given Bioware’s work with the company throughout the game’s development.

Thankfully these results put to rest concerns about this game’s performance, with official EA system requirements listing a GTX 1060 3GB as a suitable GPU for 1080p 30 FPS gameplay. It is clear that this data was false and that Nvidia’s GTX 1060 can easily achieve 60FPS gameplay at the correct settings.

The only concern about Mass Effect Andromeda’s performance is the huge performance dips during cutscenes and dialogue scenes, which on both the PS4 and Xbox One requires a resolution downgrade to achieve a steady 30 FPS.  It would have been nice to see a similar resolution downgrade/scale option for cutscenes for those that desire steadier framerates during cutscenes, as these performance dips are very noticeable.
