Mass Effect Andromeda PC Performance Review

4K Performance

At 4K we can see that all GPUs tested are unable to achieve a constant 30+ FPS during standard gameplay, though that being said the GTX 1080 does do a great job at maintaining 30+ FPS under most gameplay situations at Ultra.

Cutscenes present a huge issue for players who play the standard game at 30FPS, with the game’s cutscenes being much more demanding than combat, requiring a resolution downgrade on both the PS4 and Xbox One to achieve the same framerates.  Sadly PC has no such variable resolution option for cutscenes and gameplay, making cutscenes a lot more demanding than standard gameplay.

While cutscenes require a lot less user interaction, those playing at lower framerates, like the GTX 1080 at 4K Ultra (30-ish FPS), will see framerates dip into the low 20s, which results in choppy animations and a sub-par viewing experience.

During out testing at 4K Ultra in our GTX 1080 we found that the game was still very playable during standard gameplay and combat, despite the huge framerate dips during cutscenes. We would advise that 4K users lower their graphical settings and/or reduce their resolution scale slightly for a more consistent framerate.

4K Ultra 60FPS gameplay is something that is simply too much for existing GPUs in Mass Effect Andromeda’s PC verison, even when considering the GTX 1080 Ti, which typically offers 20-40% more performance than the GTX 1080. PC gamers will need to look into SLI or Crossfire setups if they want to play this game at 4K 60+FPS, though that being said, the game still looks great with reduced graphical settings.
