Graphical Settings Comparisons

Mortal Shell is a dark game, and that will make graphics comparisons difficult depending on the device you are using. The links below each comparison slider can be used to see a larger version of these screenshots, but even then the differences may be hard to distinguish if your screen isn’t bright enough.

Strangely, Mortal Shell’s Medium preset is darker than both the game’s Low and High Presets, a factor which will force users of this preset to alter Mortal Shell’s brightness settings.

At low, Aliasing is very noticeable within Mortal Shell, and less conspicuous at Medium. At high, the game uses a form of TAA, but this implementation has noticeable ghosting. Thankfully, Mortal Shell’s TAA is a lot better at Ultra settings, removing the visible ghosting to significantly improve image quality.

At high, foliage draw distances are increased, puddles and large watery areas gain higher quality screen-space reflections, and the game looks significantly better than it does at Medium.

At Ultra, draw distances are increased further for grass and other environmental objects, shadows are sharper and ambient occlusion sees a large uplift in quality. The biggest change from High to Ultra is in the game’s anti-aliasing, as the ghosting seen at high is removed. This makes the game look a lot better, as nobody wants to see artefacts like that.
