Project Cars 2 PC Performance Review

RX 480 Strix VS GTX 1060 Strix

In this comparison test, we are playing the game at 1440p on the Nürburgring in a 30 car race when using the game’s Thunderstorm weather condition, which should place some huge levels of stress on both of our GPUs. 

We can see that both AMD’s RX 480 and Nvidia’s GTX 1060 (both ASUS Strix versions) can achieve constant 60+FPS framerates at medium settings at 1440p, though higher settings are achievable in less taxing races with favourable weather conditions. 

Moving from our Ultra settings to high yields us a huge increase in game performance with a fairly minimal decrease in overall visual quality, though both GPUs will need to be set to medium graphics to achieve a steady 60FPS at this resolution.  

It is clear to see that Project Cars 2 prefers Nvidia hardware to its AMD counterparts, which is a trend that will be seen in the rest of our testing. The difference we found here is not overly huge, though it is something that is worth noting if you are planning to upgrade your system with Project Cars 2 in mind. 

What we should take from this test is that Project Cars 2 is a highly scalable game, with the game’s lowest settings offering and almost 4X performance difference without any changes to the game’s screen resolution.
