Starfield FSR 3 Update Tested – Boosted Performance, even without Frame Generation

Boosted Performance – Starfield now runs much faster on PC

Starfield Beta FPS Gains, even without FSR 3

While the addition of FSR 3 may be the headline feature of Strarfield’s latest beta update, we wanted to see what the game’s more general performance optimisations have impacted the game. As you can see below, we have tested a wide range of graphics cards, and all of them now run Starfield at higher framerates than before.

It’s worth noting that Nvidia graphics cards have seen larger performance boosts than their Radeon counterparts. This makes sense, as Starfield did run poorly on Nvidia graphics cards at launch. Now, AMD and Nvidia GPU performance are a lot more even. Even so, AMD’s higher-end GPUs maintain a performance lead over their Nvidia counterparts.

At 1440p we see the same performance trend as 1080p. All GPUs run faster in today’s version of Starfield, but Nvidia GPUs benefit from the game’s updates more than AMD graphics cards.

Even at 4K, the performance gains that Nvidia graphics cards have achieved in Starfield are impressive. Now, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is delivering performance levels that are in spitting distance of AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XT. Previously, the RTX 4070 Ti was outperformed by a Radeon RX 6800 XT.
