Starfield FSR 3 Update Tested – Boosted Performance, even without Frame Generation

FSR 3 Support – Boosted Framerates through Frame Generation

FSR 3 Tested in Starfield

Unlike other games, Starfield does not utilise FSR 3’s standard Quality, Balanced, and Performance presets. Instead, the game features a resolution slider. To test FSR 3, we have benchmarked Starfield at 4K using our Radeon RX 7900 XT at various resolution scales and both with and without frame generation enabled. You can see the results of this testing below.

As you can see, FSR 3 Frame Generation does not give Starfield a 2x framerate boost. This is common for games that are GPU-limited. GPU resources need to be utilised to create generated frames, lowering the base framerate of games. Below we can also see that FSR 3 at 100% resolution scale without frame generation is more taxing than Starfield’s default TAA.

With FSR 3 set to 75% with Frame Generation enabled, Starfield’s average framerate is boosted from 53.8 FPS to 115.9 FPS. This is at 4K with AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XT. This gives us a great gaming experience on our 120Hz 4K screen.
