The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered PC Performance Review and Optimisation Guide

Optimisation Tips

Optimisation Tip – Avoid Ultra Settings

When it comes to optimisation, I can only say that you should avoid this game’s Ultra preset unless your graphics card can be considered overpowered. Settings-wise, Global Illumination and Shadows can have a high performance cost. Furthermore, I would recommend reloading this game after settings changes. Without doing that, altered graphical settings can result in graphical bugs.

For users of GPUs with 8GB of VRAM, you will need to lower this game’s settings to medium. At higher settings, we saw frequent stuttering on 8GB GPUs, especially after fast-travelling or entering new areas. Lower settings can reduce VRAM use, minimising these issues. That said, AMD 8GB GPUs didn’t perform well in this game, implying that this game doesn’t run well on Radeon GPUs when VRAM is oversubscribed. Nvidia GPUs appear to handle this better.
