The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered PC Performance Review and Optimisation Guide

CPU Performance – How much CPU do I need?

Does Oblivion Remastered demand a high-end CPU with tonnes of cores?

For the most part, Oblivion Remastered is a game that is GPU-limited. At Ultra settings in our tests below, we saw no major performance changes after we disabled most of the CPU cores on our i9-13900K CPU. That said, things were different when we moved to high settings.

Our test area in this game is inside the walls of Cheydinhal. This is one of the most demanding areas of the game. If you can get an average framerate of 60+ FPS here, you can achieve that almost everywhere in this game.

At high settings, we started seeing performance drop when we moved below eight CPU cores. At six cores, we saw a notable drop in lower percentile framerates, and at four cores, average framerates dropped significantly. Clearly, at eight cores and above, we are primarily GPU-limited, even at 1080p with DLSS in Performance mode.
