Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus PC Performance Review

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus PC Performance Review

Introduction

Wolfenstein II is easily one of PC gaming’s most interesting releases this year, combining the id tech 6 engine that powered DOOM 2016 with the recently revived Wolfenstein series to create a game that offers some compelling visuals, fast gameplay and rids itself of classic APIs altogether to become the first Vulkan-only game on PC.

As a full package, Wolfenstein II offers rich visuals and creates a believable world with a story that has more emotional impact that any game that is mostly about killing Nazis should while also offering satisfying fast-paced gameplay and some spectacular visuals.

One of the big draws for Wolfenstein is the game’s fast pace, with the console versions of this game offering a framerate target at 60FPS and a PC version that promises to reach even greater heights with powerful enough hardware.

The question that we will be answering today is exactly how well the PC version of this game runs, while also looking into some of the problems that we have experienced while testing this game.

Drivers

As always, we will be using the most recent drivers from AMD and Nvidia at the time of release. This means that we will be testing this game with AMD’s Radeon Software Crimson ReLive 17.10.3 Driver and Nvidia’s Geforce 388.13 driver. Both of these drivers are said to contain optimisations and bug fixes for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.Â
