Wolfenstein: Youngblood PC Performance Review

Graphical Settings Comparison Low, Medium, High, Ultra, Uber and Mein Leben!

If there is one thing that Wolfenstein: Youngblood can be commended for its graphical efficiency. Even when using the game’s low preset Wolfenstein: Youngblood can offer satisfying visuals. Yes, it is far from the game’s maximum preset; but it is more than good enough to leave most gamers satisfied.

When compared to medium, most graphical settings are cut. Lower resolution geometry is visible in the medium-far distance, textures aren’t as sharp, and most reflections are culled. Even at that most of the screenshot below remains mostly similar. Wolfenstein’s low preset doesn’t make any cuts too far in terms of image quality, though higher settings are sill preferable.

Moving up to Wolfenstein’s High setting will see huge notable in texture quality, both in terms of resolution and in filtering quality. In the images below the most notable change is in volumetric lighting, which changes the visibility of much of the game’s scenery.

Much like before the changes to Wolfenstein are subtle when looking at static screenshots, which is ultimately a good thing for low-spec gamers.

When comparing High and Ultra in the screenshots below it is clear that texture filtering has improved but no other changes are easy to decipher. Reflections appear somewhat sharper, but ultimately the core of the scene remains unchanged.

(High VS Ultra)

Between Ultra and Uber the only major difference in the screenshots below is in shadow quality, which is notably different on the buildings in front of the player. Even so, the difference is minor, which explains why game performance is identical to before.

At Mein Leben settings the only major difference in the screenshots below is in shadow quality, which is notably improved within the game. In distant windows, new shadows are present, both in the windows and in the reflections of these windows. This results in increased VRAM usage and lower framerates.
