The Build and Cooling

Here at OC3D we love a well stocked accessories box, and from that standpoint the Luxe deliverers in spades.  All your srews and fittings are kept safe, sound, and more importantly separate in a partitioned plastic box.  There’s a shed load of cable ties, and even a few extra velcr….Sorry, Hook-N-Loop Bagle ties.  You also get a universal Pump mouning bracket, and a universal reveroir mounting bracket, both of which can be attached to the inside of the case, just in case you don’t want to use any of the three available 5.25″ bays for your pump/res combo.

  

 

The instructions for the Luxe come in the form of a reassuringly expensive Glossy booklet.  They are clear and concise, and have good sized diagrams and multi language descriptions.  Oh, and if you remember the bit about having to remove 15 screws to take the case top off, then look closely at the text in the image below.

 

 We’ve removed the false floor to fit the PSU, pushing the cables through the ample sized management hole adjecant to them.  The cover plate is retained by only three screws and is easy enough to remove and re fit.

  

 

With everything in we can see that although the HDD racks take up a good proportion of the anterior section of the case, there’s actually still plenty of rom there.  Certainly you’re nnot going to struggle with GPU lengths and CPU cooler heights, with figures of 347mm and 193mm respectively.

  

 

Our Havik 120 looks positively lost in there, as indeed it should.  Rest assured, if air cooling is your thing then there’s not really much on the market that won’t fit in the Luxe.

  

 

 We already know that the roof of the case will not just take 360mm rads, but also the large 420mm units based on the triple 140mm fan design, but how much room have we got to play with?  Well, as the fans can be fitted above the bracket level, but still inside the case, you have a good 65mm given over to rad space.  Not bad, not bad at all.

  

 

So here we have the supplied Phanteks 140mm fan along with a pair of our 140mm Phanteks units.  Yes we know they’re mounted upside down, but what we really wanted to do was demonstrate that they fit just fine, and like you, we find the arse end of fans rather ugly.

  

 

Sadly we don’t have a 420mm rad to hand, so have had to make do with a 360mm unit, which we have to say fits just fine, to the point where we have no reason to beleive a 420 will, even if Phanteks don’t seem too sure themselves. 

  

 

Now, although Phanteks calim you can get a 240mm rad in the front, we can’t help but think what the possibilities would be if you were to remove all the 3.5″ and 5.25″ bays from the equation.  Remember we said that this case was all held together with screw?  Well we’re pretty sure that you could get a 360 in the front, as well as a 420 in the roof.  It’d take a bit of modding, but the real estate is there for the taking.
