MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi Review
Introduction and Technical Specifications
Introduction
The Tomahawk brand name is one that has been around for about a decade now. We’ve certainly reviewed our fair share. Until recently they’ve very much been at the value end of the MSI range. That isn’t to say that they financially aren’t, but MSI have certainly ensured that their feature set is fulsome.
The most recent model we reviewed was the Z790 equipped Tomahawk. Still part of the MSI MAG range – their base set, followed by the midrange MPG and flagship MEG – it had all of the features you actually need, whilst having nothing superfluous. Such was the success of that model that MSI have revisited the design ethos with the model we’re reviewing today, the MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk.
Boasting the vast majority of the cutting edge technologies that make up the latest AMD chipset, including USB 4 and WiFi 7, the MSI X870 Tomahawk is perfect if you want to utilise the newest hardware without breaking the bank. Obviously we’re not saying buying a spanglier motherboard is needless, merely if you’re at this end of the new AMD chipset market you’ll be amazed what the MSI Tomahawk brings to the party.
Technical Specifications
Naturally we’ll highlight all these features as we take a look at the X870 Tomahawk in the flesh. Nonetheless we know that many of you like the simplicity of a single overview. The primary difference between the X870 and X870E chipsets are the number of PCIe 5.0 and M.2 Gen5 slots on each. Usually the X870 non-E has one fewer and the Tomahawk is no exception.
