MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk Review

Up Close

With a unit cost of $2m per missile, the Tomahawk is an extremely expensive cruise missile used by a lot of the western powers. This military grounding is probably why the MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk has such a military grey box. We do have to chuckle at the battery warning label. Why so big?

Inside the box you get a decent selection of accessories. We’re not sure if we like the chibi MSI Dragon, but perhaps he’ll be popular. In the middle here you can see the new front panel cable MSI are using that makes plugging your case into the motherboard much simpler.

Accessories

A nice overview of the Tomahawk. You can see how simple the design is and how much they’ve cut back on that lurid green colouring. It’s still there of course, just less so. We don’t know if, with the way of the world right now, we like reminding people of military conflicts. Hey ho. It’s been an element of PC Hardware for 20 years or so now.

Overview

There are a couple of things to note. Firstly the 8+8 12V CPU power inputs are easier to reach than some we’ve seen. The skin on our fingers is grateful. Secondly, the placement of the 7seg error display is strange. Normally it’s as far in the corner as possible. Here it’s by the 24pin ATX. Just odd. Not good or bad. Unusual.
