Our CPU temperature testing is a juxtaposition between best and worst case scenarios. We run a seriously heavyweight CPU cooler, which shows the best use case, and then torture the system for 30 minutes to get our peak reading. Otherwise known as the worst case scenario.

The AMD Ryzen 9 9900X is a very good balance between extreme performance and relatively sane temperatures. The MSI X870 Tomahawk is the warmest of the 7 motherboards we’ve reviewed for launch, but still a mile ahead of the 14th Gen Intel offerings and well below 80°C.
