ASUS RTX 4070 Super TUF OC Review

After the all-black stylings of the Nvidia box, the searing green on the TUF box grabs your attention. The design also shows the ethos behind the ASUS TUF range. Product image. Feature set. No frills. No fuss. Admirable simplicity.
The RTX 4070 Super TUF OC itself is very familiar if you’ve seen any of the TUF Gaming cards. Years of ASUS design distilled into a single idea. Lots of carefully designed fans for maximum cooling. A few creases and vents in the right places to keep things cool. Muted colour palette. Minimal RGB.
We weren’t expecting some stylised Buckyballs in the design of the backplate, but here we are. We like it. We’re also keen, as we’ve always been, on the pass through vent hole. Anything that helps get cold air in and hot air out wins big in our books.
This desire to expel hot air easily is best expressed looking at the Super TUF OC side-on. Lots of space to draw in cooling air. Lots of space to expel the worked air. It might not win any design awards, but you have to admire the unity of purpose.
If you want to drop a few MHz at the top end, and gain a little bit more noise reduction, the switchable BIOS has you covered. We think the RTX 4070 Super already has a tenuous place in the Nvidia range, so we’d be loath to gimp the performance.
Until now the ASUS TUF range has stuck with the PCIe power inputs on their cards, such as the RTX 3070 Ti, but the move to the RTX 4070 Super has meant sticking to the Nvidia design. Those of you with older power supplies need to bear this in mind if you plan an upgrade.
The business end of the RTX 4070 Super TUF OC consists of three DisplayPort outputs and a single HDMI. ASUS have also retained their stainless steel backplate for maximum longevity and, let’s not pretend otherwise, glitz factor.
