Hitman 2 PC Performance Review

Hitman 2 PC Performance Review

Graphical Settings – Disappointingly few options

When compared to Hitman 2016, Hitman 2 has released with what could only be described as a disappointing graphical options menu, lacking support for AA options outside of the game’s default TAA and without support for Direct 12. Shadow Quality is now a single graphical option, replacing the Shadow Resolution and Shadow Maps options of its predecessor, removing the ability to tweak as heavily as its predecessor.

Strangely, during our testing, we experienced a lot of crashes upon this game’s launch with the game refusing to boot unless we played the game at 720p using the game’s “Exclusive Fullscreen” mode, though we were able to adjust the game’s resolution as we wished once we entered the game.

It is disappointing to see IO Interactive drop support for some of Hitman’s graphical options, though this may have been a consequence of the developer’s departure from Square Enix and their tighter development budget.

Hitman 2 PC Performance Review

Hitman 2 doesn’t feature graphical presets, but for the purposes of testing we decided to make some, with the game’s graphical settings splitting neatly into Low, Medium/Normal, High and Ultra options. For texture filtering, we stuck the game to 16x, as we found that this setting typically has a negligible impact on game performance.
