Just Cause 4 PC Performance Review

CPU Performance – Does Just Cause 4 need a lot of CPU grunt?

Our performance testing for Just Case 4 is conducted around one of the game’s border conflict zones, where the Black Hand are fighting the Army of Chaos in a seemingly never-ending struggle to control Solis. For good measure, there is also a hurricane that is threatening to join the battle in the distance.

To ensure repeatability, we made our game’s save files read-only, preventing them from being rewritten during gameplay, guaranteeing the same time of day, spawn location and weather conditions when we test the game. This minimises run-to-run variation and ensures that our results are comparable across multiple systems and hardware configurations.

In our test locations, the enemy army is composed of snipers, missile troops and APCs, while the rebels are also fighting back with machine guns, rocket batteries and RPGs, creating a repeatable battle scene to act as a stress test. Each test takes 1 minute and is repeated three times to ensure consistency.

Using our GTX 1080 Founders Edition graphics card, we found that all of the CPU configurations that we tested can achieve a smoother 60 FPS framerate in this battle scene, showing that our test area is clearly CPU limited. Just Cause 4 can clearly run well on lower core count CPU setups, making anything above Just Cause 4’s PC system requirements being capable of 60 FPS gameplay.

Higher core count CPUs can offer faster loading times in Just Cause 4, making higher core counts preferable when using SSD-based systems.
