Quake Champions Early Access Performance Review

4K Screenshot Graphical Comparison

Quake isn’t a game that is about high levels of graphical fidelity, which means that most players will sacrifice some visual yum-yum in order to achieve high levels of game performance. Even so, at Ultra graphical settings Quake Champions can easily be played at 60FPS on all of our test hardware, with drops in detail most players will even be able to play this game at 120FPS+, which is ideal for a fast-paced online game.

At the game’s lowest graphical setting the graphics are very bare-bones, not exactly awful looking but it is not something that you want to sit and stare at for long periods. Thankfully Quake Champions is very fast paced, so even at these graphical settings the game is satisfying to play, as there is simply no time to stand and look at the scenery in the middle of a deathmatch.

Moving up to medium settings we can see texture quality take a huge leap forward as well as shadow quality, global reflections and other effects. Note that the geometry of the level isn’t changed, or draw distances, there is no competitive advantage or disadvantage to playing the game at higher or lower graphical quality settings.

Moving to high we can continue to see graphical improvements but when moving from High to Ultra the graphical differences are minimal, to the point where we can barely notice a difference in our side-by-side comparison.
