Quake Champions Early Access Performance Review

AMD VS Nvidia – RX 480 VS GTX 1060 – Low to Ultra Settings

It says a lot about Quake Champions that out graphical settings framerate comparisons need to be conducted at a resolution of 1440p. Even at Ultra game settings both our GTX 1060 Strix and RX 480 Strix were able to achieve average framerates of over 60 FPS, though our RX 480 Strix did experience a single drop to 59FPS.

This is great news as anything under 60FPS simply feels slow in Quake Champions, here the movement speed of players is insanely fast when compared to traditional shooters, requiring high framerates to appear smooth and feel responsive.

Moving down to lower graphical settings will see significant boosts in framerate, especially when moving to low settings where both GPUs achieve minimum framerates of over 160FPS. It is games like this that make us realise why 240Hz gaming displays exist, and in Quake Champions framerates this high are actually achievable with the right hardware.
