Resident Evil Requiem – PC Tech Review
Ray Tracing Off VS On
Testing Ray Tracing’s Impact
Ray tracing is exclusive to Resident Evil Requiem’s PC and PlayStation 5 Pro versions. This means most players will experience this game without ray tracing, so the game’s “traditional” lighting solutions need to look good. It does, and that’s great news for PC gamers with lower-end hardware.
So what does ray tracing add? With ray tracing, reflections are improved, and lighting becomes more realistic. While this game’s pre-baked lighting does a great job, ray tracing shadows in areas that should be darkened, making the game appear more grounded. With ray-traced reflections, glass reflections are more accurate and lack the artefacts of screen-space reflections.
With ray tracing, we can see character reflections in glass. However, these reflections are fairly blurry, even with ray tracing set to high. With ray tracing, lighting is more accurate, but in more subtle ways. See how the character’s hair is lit differently, and how the character’s neck is in shadow.
