Starfield FSR 3 Update Tested – Boosted Performance, even without Frame Generation

FSR 3 VS DLSS 3

FSR 3 VS DLSS 3 in Starfield – Which is better?

Thanks to the game’s beta update, Starfield now supports both FSR 3 and DLSS 3 on PC. For users of RTX 40 series hardware, players have a choice to make between both Frame Generation/Temporal Super Resolution solutions.

While Nvidia’s DLSS Super Resolution delivers higher framerates than FSR’s equivalent mod, DLSS Frame Generation does not. This gives AMD’s FSR 3 the framerate lead when Frame Generation is enabled. That said, Nvidia’s DLSS Super Resolution technology also delivers sharper results than FSR.

In general, I think the Frame Generation aspects of FSR 3 and DLSS 3 deliver similar results, but FSR is let down by its Temporal Super Resolution element. DLSS delivers better upscaling results, and those results help Nvidia’s solution to create better generated frames. After all, a better input for frame generation will result in a better output.
