XCOM: Chimera Squad PC Performance Review and Optimisation Guide

CPU Performance – Does XCOM need a beefy processor?

As a turn-based title, smooth framerates are less of a necessity than they are for other titles. Input response will not impact XCOM’s gameplay in the same way that it would impact a first-person shooter, but that doesn’t mean that high framerates aren’t desirable.

The good news is that XCOM: Chimera Squad can achieve high average framerates on even low-end setups. That said, we did experience a lot of framerate spikes when we benchmarked the game. This can happen during sudden camera movements, but they are practically unnoticeable in gameplay. Even with these stutters, gameplay appears to run smoothly and the game’s animations run as they should.

While XCOM clearly benefits from having more cores, having hyperthreading enabled appears to be a problem for the game. While maximum framerates increase with 4 core and eight threads, framerate averages and lower percentile results are reduced.
