Assassin's Creed Odyssey PC Performance Review

Low-end GPU testing – R9 380 VS GTX 960 – Is 2GB of VRAM enough?

When using our GTX 960 and R9 380 graphics cards, we found that lowering the game’s texture detail levels was enough to cause a significant leap in performance over the game’s default 1080p High results, confirming that the game is VRAM capacity limited.

Lowering the game down to 1080p Medium settings will bring the GTX 960 over 30FPS in most of the game, with the R9 380 requiring deeper cuts to game settings. Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey is another game where we see older 2GB graphics cards struggle, potentially making now the time to upgrade for users of these GPUs. More performance can be achieved with lower settings or by decreasing the game’s resolution scale. option to a sub-1080p resolution.
