Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy PC Performance Review

1440p Benchmarks

Cranking things up to 1440p, we can see that both our mid-range GTX 1060 and RX 580 graphics cards remain as strong contenders for 60FPS gameplay, offering average framerates of over 55 with dips below in our test run.

To find our test run we played through large sections of each game in the trilogy, wumping down several bosses while also discovering which stages offer the highest GPU loads. This demanding stage acts as what we consider to be a worst-case-scenario for the title, which means that a solid 60 in these benchmarks should result in a solid 60 FPS in almost all stages in the game.

What we discovered during this testing is that the game’s Ultra shadow quality setting has a substantial impact on in-game performance, with a move to high shadows offering a significant enough change to bring both the RX 580 and GTX 1060 to a steady 60FPS in our test area. Given the limited visual impact of the game’s Ultra quality shadows, we see this as a worthy sacrifice to achieve a stable 60FPS framerate.

With both our GTX 1060 and GTX 960 GPUs we can see that Nvidia’s Geforce graphics cards offer higher performance levels than their Radeon equivalents, though in both cases they can reach roughly the same performance targets at the same settings, making the difference somewhat meaningless if you lock the framerate at appropriate levels.

Both our GTX 960 and R9 380 graphics cards can offer 1440p 30FPS gameplay with a few lowered graphical settings, delivering a similar gameplay experience to the game’s PS4 Pro version.
