Graphical Comparison – Low to Ultra

With the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy offering PC gamers a minimal number of graphical options, it is understandable why each of the game’s graphical presets provide a minimal boost in graphical fidelity, so much so that the differences between some of these options are all but invisible in side-by-side comparisons.

Moving from the N. Sane Trilogy’s Low preset to medium preset we can see the largest single graphical boost that the game has to offer, turning on the game’s optional Ambient Occlusion, Bloom Depth of field and fur blur options.

Shadow detail is also increased significantly in the game’s medium preset, especially on Coco, the female bandicoot. The game’s low FXAA option also does a great job eliminating jaggies in the final image, especially on the curved edges of the wall and the towers in the medium distance.

When moving from Medium to High settings, you could be forgiven for thinking that there is no graphical difference, especially after considering that the only two graphical options that change are the title’s Anti-Aliasing and Shadow quality.

If you look again at Coco’s shadow, you can see that edges become more refined and as the wall curves in the medium distance we can also see further reductions in visual aliasing. These are the only two visible differences between Medium and High settings in the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy.

(Medium VS High)

Changing from High to Ultra settings we again see a minimal increase in graphical quality, with the only discernable difference being in shadow quality, which, again, can be quickly spotted under Coco. In this case, the jump in quality is soo small that we would recommend turning shadows from Ultra to high at the first sign of any performance issues, as it will be almost impossible to see this visual difference while the game is in motion.

(High VS Ultra)
