DOOM: The Dark Ages PC Performance Review and Optimisation Guide

VRAM Use?

VRAM Use – Is DOOM: The Dark Ages VRAM-heavy?

DOOM: The Dark Ages is a game that has the potential to be very VRAM-heavy. There’s a reason why id Software recommends graphics cards with 8GB of VRAM or more. Thankfully, 8GB GPUs are more than capable of playing this game at 1080p and 1440p. That said, 4K is off the table for 8GB GPUs, as gamers really need 10GB+ GPUs to run optimally at 4K.

To ensure that this game runs well on your system, you must set your Texture Pool Size appropriately. Setting this too high will cause your framerates to drop and the game to become unstable. For 8 GB GPUs, a 2048 MB size is appropriate for 1440p, and 256oMB is suitable for 1080p. For 10 GB GPUs, 2560 MB is appropriate for 4K, with higher settings being usable at 1080p and 1440p. If you own a GPU with 12 GB+ of VRAM, higher settings can be used without any issues.
