Final Fantasy XV: Windows Edition PC Performance Review

Final Fantasy XV: Windows Edition PC Demo Performance Review

Graphical Settings Comparison – Low to Highest – GTX 1060 VS RX 480

While some outlets will quickly find a benchmarking area and rush out a PC performance review, we believe that games deserve a more in-depth look than that. For starters, tutorial areas are often a lot less stressful than later stages, where enemies are a lot less dense, and environments are simplified. After all, a game needs to build up when moving from its first act.

Our benchmarking sequence is in Final Fantasy XV’s third act, where the game opens up and becomes a lot more demanding, with a larger explorable area which is rich with forests and includes a few densely populated areas, things that are not seen in act one.

We found that the forests around Wiz Chocobo Ranch and the City-like area of Lestallum can be much more demanding than the scenes used by other sites, so while many areas of the game offer much higher framerates, you can bet money on out benchmarks looking at demanding test cases.

The first thing that we can see when comparing the RX 480 to Nvidia’s GTX 1060 is that AMD hardware can offer much lower performance than their Nvidia counterparts, though in some less demanding areas performance can look a little more even. When push comes to shove AMD’s hardware can fall behind, though that is expected given Final Fantasy XV’s close association with Nvidia.
