Final Fantasy XV: Windows Edition PC Demo Performance Review

GameWorks – How much of an impact does it have?

When looking at the impact of GameWorks, it is clear that VXAO is the huge performance hog here, so much so that we recommend that most PC gamers simply turn this setting off. The visual impact is noticeable but not enough for its absence to be considered a loss. Your improved framerates will serve you better.

TurfEffects and ShadowLibs have almost no performance impact in our test case, though note that ShadowLibs can only be activated on Nvidia Hardware, with the option being greyed out on AMD-powered machines. It is worth noting that TurfWorks does bring higher levels of CPU utilisation, so please bear this in mind if the game is proving to be CPU limited on your system.

Hairworks doesn’t factor in much into our test, as while it includes driving past an area with hairy Garula, they are not in the scene for long or interacted with much. The impact is expected to be higher in certain scenes, though these scenes are not as easily repeatable as we would like.

In all the effects do not hit AMD much harder than Nvidia, though Nvidia already has the home field advantage here. Looking at the framerates, we can also see why Final Fantasy’s Developers said that this game was designed for use with future GPU hardware.
