1440p Benchmarks – Is this GRID’s performance sweet spot?

1440p is often called the sweet spot resolution, and for good reason. More often than not, the performance cap between 1080p and 1440p gaming isn’t as large as the resolution gap implies. A resolution of 1440p has 80% more total pixels than 1080p, but the performance cap is often much lower than that.

At 1440p, our Powercolor RX 5700XT offers an average framerate of 90.4 FPS. At 1080p the same graphics card averages at 114 FPS. This represents a performance drop of less than 21% for an 80% increase in pixel count. Clearly, there is more to PC framerates than mere pixels, and GRID (2019) showcases this.

Aside from our RX 580 and GTX 1060 graphics cards, most of the GPUs we tested are well suited for 1440p GRID gameplay at 60+FPS framerates during standard daytime races. Move the game down to high, and most of these cards will be able to achieve the same thing in the rain.

For 1440p gameplay, Nvidia’s RTX 2060 and AMD’s RX 5700 are ideal graphics cards, offering solid 60+ FPS performance at Ultra in standard races and 50+ FPS framerates in demanding rainy races. Turn the game down to high and you can expect 60+ FPS framerates at all times.
